This tutorial was written in psp 8 but can be done in other versions, You will need a tube of your choice, i'm using the artwork of Armando Huerta, you will need to visit MPT to purchase the tube and a license. Font: Freaking Stars found: HERE Optional font: International Super Hero found: HERE Filter: dsb Flux Bright Noise: HERE Brush made by me: HERE
Ok, let's get started! Open a new image 500 x 500 and flood fill with white.
With the Text Tool, Font: Freaking Stars, Size 350, create as vector, type out a capital A. Objects>Align>Center In Canvas. Layers>Convert>Convert to Raster Layer. With the Magic Wand Tool, feather and tolerance both at zero, click inside the star to select it, Selections>Modify>Expand by 1, Layers>New raster Layer, drag this layer below the star layer on the layer palette and floodfill with another color from your tube, I used: #00568B. Selections>Select None. Close the visibilty off of the background layer on the layer palette and Layers>Merge>Merge Visible. Apply Effects>Texture Effects>Texture: Dither 25pct with these settings:
Edit>Copy and open Animation Shop, in animation shop Edit>Paste>As New Animation. Effects>Insert Image Effect and choose 'Underwater' in the drop down menu. Click the 'customise' tab as shown below:
This will open up the underwater settings box and apply the settings as shown below (if the image to the right is blank and just a black dot, click on the dot and drag out some lines similar to mine):
Click ok and apply the Effect Length and Frames per second settings shown below and click ok.
Slide the slider bar at the bottom of the animation to the left until you see frame 1 and click on frame 1 to make it active (the border will turn red when active) and Edit>Delete. Back to psp, Edit>Undo the texture and again Edit>Undo Merge Visible, click on the top star layer and repeat the texture, Edit>Copy and into animation shop, Edit>Paste>As New Animation. Edit>Duplicate until you have 8 frames, if it goes over to 9, click on the 9th frame to make it active and Edit>Delete. Edit>Select All, Edit>Copy, minimise for now and on the animation with the underwater effect: Edit>Select All, Edit>Paste>Into Selected Frame, you will see the other animation appear at the end of your mouse cursor, position it and then click it into place. View>Animation, check that it plays ok, if not undo and repeat the steps. Back to psp, unhide the background layer if it's still hidden so we can see what we're doing, set the Foreground colour to the same dark colour used earlier, mine is: #192836 and set the background colour to another colour from your tube, I used: #D12227. With the Text Tool, same freaking stars font, size 350, vector, type out a capital H. Objects>Align>Center in Canvas, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer. Drag this layer to the bottom of the layer palette, above the background layer, apply the same texture effect as before and apply a drop shadow, I used V: 2, H: 2, Opacity: 40, Blur: 5. Leave the Background colour the same colour you used before and switch off the Foreground colour. With the text Tool, same font and size as before, vector, type out a capital U. Obejects>Align>Center in Canvas, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer. Drag this layer to the bottom of the layer palette, above the background layer. Layers>Duplicate 3 times giving you a total of 4 layers. On the top copy apply Effects:Plugins>dsb Flux>Bright Noise with these settings:
Repeat the bright noise to the next star copy layer down but click the mix button twice, repeat again to the next layer down and hit the mix button 3 times and repeat again for the last layer clicking the mix button 4 times. Add a drop shadow to all these layers, I used the same as before, don't worry if it starts to look dark, that's because all the duplicated layers are visible. Switch the Background colour off and switch the Foreground colour on, any colour, and with the preset shape tool, vector and anti-alias checked, draw out a large 8 pointed star. Objects>Align>Center in Canvas, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer, with the Magic Wand Tool, click inside the star. Layers>New raster Layer, drag this layer to the bottom, above the background layer and with a light colour from your tube, apply the brush, lower the opacity of the brush layer to around 20, click on the star shape layer that you just drew out on the layer palette to make it active and Layers>Delete, Selections>Select None. Copy and paste your tube as a new layer on the top of the layer palette, resize, position and apply a drop shadow of your choice. Add the artists copyright info and your license number, tagger name etc. and add you name text, I used a dark colour for my Foreground Colour and the same colour I used for my background stars for the Background Colour, font: International Super Hero, size 48, I applied the following Inner bevel:
and I also applied a drop shadow of V: 2, H: 2, Opacity: 55, Blur: 5. Ok, now close off the visibilty on the layer palette of the name text, copyright, tube and the 2 star layers below (these were the layers taken to animation shop earlier) these should be the top 5 layers, leaving 7 layers visible. Close the visibilty off of the bottom 3 star layers that you applied the dsb bright noise filter to, leaving one copy visible, and Edit>Copy Merged. Over to Animation shop and Edit>Paste>As New Animation. Back to psp and hide the top star layer and unhide the next copy down, Edit>Copy Merged. Over to animation shop and Edit>Paste>After Current Frame. Back to psp and hide the second star layer that is visible and unhide the next copy down, Edit>Copy Merged. Over to animation shop and Edit>Paste>After Current Frame. Back to psp and hide the third star layer that is visible and unhide the last copy down, Edit>Copy Merged. Over to animation shop and Edit>Paste>After Current Frame. View>Animation and check that it plays ok, if not undo and repeat the steps. Edit>Select All, Edit>Copy, move the slider bar under the animation to the very last 4th frame, clcik on it to make it the active frame and Edit>Paste>After Current Frame and now you should have 8 frames. View>Animation and check that it plays ok. Move this over for now and go back to the first animation you made in animation shop, Edit>Select All, Edit>Copy, back to the other animation and Edit>Select All, Edit>Paste>Into Selected Frame, position the animation and click it into place and check that it plays ok. Back to psp and hide all layers and unhide the tube, copyright and name text layers, Layers>Merge Visible and Edit>Copy. Over to Animation shop and Edit>Paste>As New Animation. Edit>Duplicate until you have 8 frames, Edit>Select All, Edit>Copy, and to the main animation Edit>Select All, Edit>Paste>Into Selected Frame, position the animation and click it into place and check that it plays ok. Save as gif and we're done!
